FAQ-Solar PV
How Often Will I Get Paid?
You will receive payments from the Ontario Power Authority at the same frequency you currently receive your bills from your local hydro distributor. For example, if you currrently receive your bill every month, you will receive your payment every month as well.

What If I Sell My Property?
The contract with the OPA is completely transferrable to the new owner. The revenue generating contract  would be an added feature when selling your house and would definitely add value to the property.

Do I Still Have To Pay For Electricity?
Yes. The electricity generated from your roof will feed back into the grid. You are better off buying the electricity back from the hydro company since what we pay for electricity is so low compared to the what they are paying you for generating electricity.

Do I Need More Insurance?
If you buy solar panels and install them on your house, your insurance company will be obligated to insure them, just as they insure the rest of your household items.

Does Installation Damage My Roof?
No, the installation is quick and unobtrusive. The mounting system is specifically engineered for rooftops to ensure that it does not compromise the integrity of the structure. The low profile rails fit tight to the surface and are easy to level, creating a very neat & tidy appearance.

Will The Rules Change During The Contract?
Once the contract is signed, neither party can change their minds - or the rules in the case of the OPA. The rate you sign up for now is what you will receive for 20 years. The rates being offered right now are the most attractive ever offered world wide. These rates will only be offered for a limited time to get the ball rolling and will be revisited in the fall of 2011.

What Happens At The End Of The Contract?
At the end of the 20 year contract you will have the option to re-sign at the OPA's new rate, apply for other available contracts that might be available, or use the panels for your own energy use.

Can I back out of the contract?
No. Once you agree to the contract and install the system you are bound to the contract with the OPA.

Is it the right time to go solar?
Ontario's move to initiate the Feed In Tarrif program is currently the most aggressive incentive, WORLD WIDE. This makes it the most opportune time for people to invest in solar energy. It is true that the cost of solar will eventually go down with demand rising, however, so will the FIT rate. Now is the time to go solar!

Who is responsible for maintenance & repairs to my roof?

ProQuip does a site evaluation as part of their system design process. At this point you will be informed on the condition of you roof and whether or not it requires repairs/replacement. After the installation is complete, any roof repairs are your responsibility. The solar panels themselves will not harm your roof. In fact, they will shade your roof from direct sunlight prolonging the life of an average shingle.

Is my roof strong enought to support a pv system?

One of the first steps when thinking of installing a rooftop solar system is having a roof inspection done. This inspection determines if your shingles/roof cover needs to be replaced and if there is sufficient support for the system.

Is my investment guaranteed?
An investment in solar technology on its own is as safe and reliable as the sun itself. In the case of Ontario's FIT and microFIT program, the decision to invest in solar provides a guaranteed 20 year contract with the government.
